MARTINSBURG - Two Martinsburg churches, in addition to local food banks and charities, put the "giving" in Thanksgiving early with community outreach events Saturday.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m., members of the Church at Martinsburg gathered in the parking lot of the church, located at 50 Monroe St. near Berkeley Plaza, bringing frozen turkeys and loading them onto trucks for delivery to area food banks for the church's annual "Operation: Thanks" project. Once the turkeys were loaded, teams of three or four church members drove to their respective drop off points.
Scott Keifer, along with Brian Rudy, Robert Carney and Alan Chauncey brought Operation: Thanks turkeys to CCAP Loaves and Fishes, located at 336 S. Queen St. Forming an assembly line, they literally passed the turkey as the men unloaded the truck.
